Upcoming Community Emergency Response Training (CERT)

We are pleased to announce confirmed dates for our first Nurse Alliance of California CERT Training. (Community Emergency Response Training)

SEIU 721 will be hosting at 1545 Wilshire Blvd Ste 100, Los Angeles, CA 90017 in the auditorium from 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM on the following dates:

Thursday, February, 27, 2020
Friday, February, 28, 2020
Saturday, February, 29, 2020

January: Monday 1/10 10-3p via Zoom

February: Tuesday 2/1 6-8p via Zoom (note that all 6-8p meetings will be via Zoom)

March: Wednesday 3/9 10-3p (Confirmed as in-person at L221 4004 Kearny Mesa Road
San Diego, CA 92111)

April: Tuesday 4/5 6-8p

May: Tuesday 5/3 10-3p (possibly in-person at L1000 in Sac.)

June: Tuesday 6/7 6-8p

July: Wednesday 7/6 10-3p (possibly in-person at L1021 in SF)

August: Tuesday 8/2 6-8p

September: Tuesday 9/6 10-3p (possibly in-person at L721 in LA)

October: Wednesday 10/5 6-8p

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
  • Giving critical support to first responders, providing immediate & assistance to victims
  • Earthquake awareness, fire suppression techniques, team organization & disaster psychology
    • Environmental Justice Committee In California
    • SEIU nurses leading the way to address environmental, racial, & economic disparities and injustices that occur in our healthcare systems and the communities in which nurses live and serve
    • Man-made and natural disasters, climate change & the impact on our health and wellbeing
    Union-wide Disaster Relief Program
    • Having a capable “response ready” team when called for national and international disasters
    • Joining other relief organizations to maximize our effectiveness

    Note: In addition to registering for the conference, you also need to contact your Local for approval of hotel/travel accommodations

This conference will include our very own Luisa Blue. Luisa has an inspiring story to tell as a nurse member who worked her way up through the ranks to become an Executive Vice President of SEIU.

We will also cover exciting topics that will help us provide better care for our patients and clients and further empower us as patient and nurse advocates.

Topics such as: LGBTQ Sensitivity Training, Nurses for environmental Health, RN Whistleblower Protections,

Cannabis: It’s impact on patients and the nursing profession, and Healthcare changes are coming for all Californians.

We’re honored to have Dr. Joseph Morris; Executive Director of the Board of Registered Nursing do an insightful presentation of the BRN.
